Developing my work throughout the DDW workshop has been a challenge due to the lack of narrative and inexperience with Rhino3D.
To overcome the macbook processing issue, I booked a day on one of the computers at the Barbara Hepworth Building in order to experiment with some heavier commands on Rhino.
I had already formed some kind of loose narrative in my head - essentially what the purpose of this 'architectural machine'. Upon recently watching a hand full of sci-fi movies including re-watching my all time favourite film, Interstellar - I felt inspired by the optimism of locating a new earth in order for humanity to have a second chance at existing on a planet without pillaging its recourses until there is a humanitarian and environmental crisis resulting in extinction.
Looking back to the processes I experimented with in Rhino, I wanted to create an architectural machine that would be self powering - so I tried to create some form of photovoltaic panels wrapping around the machine in order to absorb the suns rays from every angle whether it is moving or stationary. In order to create these kinds of forms I used curved poly-lines which I grouped together and created surfaces using the patch and loft tools. Upon creating a surface I could used the gum ball tool to distort the nodes into a form I was happy with and then apply it to my architectural machine.
