Starting the Urban Study module and being split into smaller teams triggered me to begin thinking about how I feel our final design proposals may look like. I have never worked on a project before that visualises itself in the future as well as needing to consider all future developments of technology - and mankind.
Thinking a lot about my personal opinions and beliefs regarding the world, its creation and the state we as humans have put it in - I want to begin realising the future I want for myself, my friends and family and humankind and how I can integrate those desires into our proposal for a master plan.
I have watched Interstallar, Enders Game, Black Panther, Westworld, Mad Max, Hunger Games and various other films and TV shows where the storyline is based in a futuristic setting. Throughout all of these plots I have noticed that there is a general toss up between a Dystopian future and a Utopian future. A theme I have noticed is that the dystopian future is the more popular choice of settings and it's normally based around the human decimation of the planets recourses which has resulted in the dystopian scenario they find themselves in now, I feel that this relates to Fredric Jamesons quote "it is easier to imagine the end of the world than a world without capitalism". On the other hand, another occurring theme I notice in storylines where the future is 'meant' to be based more on a Utopian scenario, generally has civil unrest/a hierarchy system that needs to be overturned. I have never considered the fact that social economics plays such a large part in urban planning and setting future scenarios.
