Welcome...

Updated: Nov 8, 2020

Hi, I'm Eloise Bray - a 5th year student at the School of Art Design and Architecture with the University of Huddersfield. After completing my Bachelors in 2017 I began my placement year as an Architectural Assistant and CPD Co-Ordinator at a small firm in Holmfirth where I had already completed a summer internship in 2016, specialising in conservation, renovation and domestic architecture, occasionally branching out into a variety of other sectors. Whilst being heavily involved in a small number of large domestic renovations, working for 1 year quickly turned to 3 years and I have now decided - in the midst of a pandemic, that now would be the best time to take the plunge and complete my Masters of Architecture Degree.

In these challenging times we have had to make increasingly difficult changes and sacrifices to every aspect of our lives, such sociable species being told to stay in our households, not mingle or meet up with our friends and family. Our homes have become our sanctuaries of safety and the world outside seems a little bit scarier than it did last year.

With this in mind, studio culture has also been somewhat lost, gone are the days where we could gather around a table with colleagues and 'red pen' a drawing, brainstorm the next big project, or discuss the development and direction of work. Whilst my tutors are mostly visible through a screen and the work we produce will be predominantly digital, I have created this blog to document my architectural journey as a student of architecture, for my tutors, friends and colleagues to keep up to date with if they wish. I will document some of my work at A+DP which is still rapidly developing on site and through our local planning department, as well as online talks/videos, reading and design development for my university projects which I will undertake in order to help me develop my architectural thinking, understanding and design throughout the next 2 years at the University of Huddersfield.
