Site Visit in an Idyllic Location

Updated: Nov 8, 2020

One of the projects I have been involved with at A+DP Ltd has been slowly developing on site for the past 2 years. This project began as a 4 bedroom Grade II listed farm house located in a conservation area and green belt - the ideal combination. Combining a multitude of construction methods, this original solid stone dwelling has been transformed, developed and rejuvenated into a sympathetic home ideal for a family looking to escape to the quiet Yorkshire countryside.

I visited site specifically a few weeks ago in order to see the progression of the project, unfortunately due to being on Furlough due to the pandemic, I had missed out on a great deal of development on site, however this week was especially important to me because it involved the installation of the Velfac doors and windows I had specified and ordered at the back end of 2019. Due to the nature of the project, many of the doors and windows drawn and specified by myself did not have the openings constructed at the time, or working drawings for the associated structure were still tentative. I was acutely aware of the liability of the practice I worked for should the door and/or windows not fit, however it would seem that each component has been installed with little or no difficulty.

As well as the renovations of the existing dwelling and erections of all extensions progressing on site, it was also interesting to see the beginning of the associated landscaping works, tying different levels of the site to each other and marrying various components of the project together, such as the 2 storey timber frame extension and the newly constructed basement to the rear of the existing property shown on the photo to the left. The newly installed dry stone walling covers months of hard work to form the basement including excavating, piling, re-enforcing and waterproofing, steel work as well as bespoke ashlar detailing to ensure no structural components are visible once all the stonework is hung over the large opening which is also waiting to receive Velfac installation.

Grit blasting all new stone helped with the relationship of the new and existing materials on site, the once dark and dirty farm house on the hill is slowly being restored into a bright, light and airy family home.

As this project enters is 4th year, I am excited to witness it continue to develop on site, first fix seems to be tentatively appearing over the horizon and the finished product is finally starting to manifest.
